United Methodist ConnectionsUnited Methodist Connections First and foremost, United Methodist churches are connectional churches. That means that our ministry and our identity as Christian communities are not limited to the local congregation. Each person in a United Methodist church is connected to the ministries in our region, our country, and all over the world. Here are some of the websites that will help you to connect to United Methodist ministries and churches everywhere. Our sister church, the United Methodist Church of Kensington East Berlin UMC shares a pastor (and much more!) with the UMC of Kensington. Our New York Annual Conference website Newly updated, this website is a tremendous resource for congregations in the New York area. Here you will find updated information on missions, forms and apportionments, lay speaking ministries, and lots more. Don't forget to check out our Conference newspaper, The Vision. Our United Methodist Church Worship Website Looking for the liturgical colors for a given Sunday? Need to know which texts are coming up so you can prepare to be the scripture reader? Teaching Sunday School and want to coordinate with the texts and themes for that Sunday's worship? Planning a worship service and need inspiration for choosing hymns or prayers? Need artwork or graphics for worship or Sunday School? This site is an outstanding resource for any and all worship needs, for Sunday and beyond. The United Methodist Church website This is a great jumping-off point. Start here if you are looking for a United Methodist board or agency, ministry or resource and don't know where else to look. Other Resources for Inspiration and Action Sacred Space is a wonderful way to pray in the middle of your day. Created by the Irish Jesuits, this site is not just pretty pictures and sentimental poems. Sacred Space is carefully crafted to walk Christians through an experience of prayer and meditation rooted in ancient monastic prayer. Take five minutes to allow your spirit to rest in God. Sojourners is an excellent touchstone for churches and Christians seeking to be the light of Christ in the world. You can read here about concrete action your fellow Christians are taking to address global poverty, stop genocide, and discern how to enter the voting booth with our Christian values. Speaking of Faith is public radio's program on "religion, meaning, ethics and ideas." The website contains back episodes which you can listen to for free, and it contains links to all sorts of poems, audio files and other websites that helps us to explore our human experience of faith. Ship of Fools is a Christian humor website. This helps keep us modern Christians from taking ourselves too seriously. Take a look, have a laugh, see if your church shows up here! The Fellowship of Merry Christians is another Christian humor website. Enjoy! |
